Contamination-free PFAS analysis in water, environmental samples and food with LCTech products.
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have special properties and are therefore used in many industrial processes and products, such as textiles, household items, firefighting, automotive, food processing, construction and electronics. Chemicals can now be found in the environment (rivers, lakes, soils) and in food (drinking water or other foods). The group of substances comprises more than 4,700 compounds, which also makes it an analytical challenge.
PFAS: health risks
As a result of effects on the immune system (e.g. due to a reduced immune response to vaccines), this group of substances is subject to continuous monitoring by authorities such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The first bans have already been announced.
More information about risk assessment and determining a tolerable intake can be found here:
PFOS and PFOA
Perfluorinated alkyl sulfonates - best known representative: Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS)
Perfluorinated carboxylic acids - best known representative: Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)
These chemicals have been commonly used for decades due to their physicochemical properties (thermally and chemically stable, water and grease repellent), for example in fire extinguishing foams, in the production/impregnation of outdoor clothing, in ski waxes, in the coating of food packaging, in makeup and lipsticks, etc. - to name just a few areas of application. Therefore, PFAS can be found everywhere: in water, soil, dust, food and, finally, also in human blood.
HIGH YIELD IN PFAS ANALYSIS
FREESTYLE PFAS
FREESTYLE robotic systems are also proven in sample preparation for PFAS and are a valuable support for high throughput. They are blank-free due to the use of PTFE-free materials and are compatible with all commercially available 3 mL or 6 mL columns.
With FREESTYLE robotic systems, samples can be processed according to all currently known standards such as US EPA 1633, US EPA 537.1, US EPA 533 and DIN 38407-42 without deviations.
LCTech FREESTYLE systems are designed for large sample volumes in PFAS analysis and are available in different versions depending on the sample volume. Choose the system that best suits you.
